The Hype: Sadly, rather lacking. The Plastic Constellations have been making bull-headed, hard-charging party rock for more than 12 years now (they started rocking at age 15), but strangely they’ve never garnered much attention outside of their native Minneapolis, which only proves that the rest of the United States is dumb.

The Show: Doubling as a label showcase gig and TPC’s final outside-the-Twin-Cities show (they recently decided to go on “indefinite hiatus” after finishing recording their We Appreciate You album), Wednesday night’s show at the Mohawk was shambling, beery, really loud and full of fist-pumping, teeth-gritting rock. Which basically means it was like every Plastic Constellations show ever. Co-frontmen Jeff Allen and Aaron Mader (one shouts, the other really shouts) traded riffs and vocals, and the former even managed a few high kicks in particularly rocking moments. The Plastic Constellations shook off some early mishaps (broken bass string, de-tuned guitar) to plow through 45 minutes, then tossed their guitars down and call it a career.

The Verdict: A totally deserving standing O for the dudes in TPC. And not just for tonight’s show, which ranked somewhere between 6 and 7 on the “Plastic Constellations flail about, drink beers and rip sh– up” scale. More importantly, it’s for a decade-plus of partying, rocking and general merriment. Oh, and that has nothing to do with the fact that they gave me an onstage shout-out at set’s end.
