- “Not a lot of people dressed up for the show, mainly because it was a Linkin Park show and Coheed & Cambria were just opening for them, so you had a lot of boring kids there really. Linkin Park are mostly rap-rock, compared to Chiodos and Coheed, who opened and who are harder. And the mosh pit … well, it was more like a bunch of people just standing there. Kinda disappointing. And with me being pregnant, I didn’t know what to do in my chair.” (The Ledbetters)
- “The moment Sia picks up that mic, she amazes with a powerful voice that weaves in and out of the delicate and the harsh. She’s completely unique and intriguing. What made the concert was how she carried it. This wasn’t just a show; it was an interaction with the crowd. The Australian dedicated song after song to randoms in the audience — including an ‘Eric the truck driver who had a booboo when I met him at the gas station this morning.’ ” (Cassette45)

I was not even to will call when I was reminded why I refuse to see shows at the House of Blues. Had it not been for a free last-minute ticket to the Sub City Take Action Tour featuring Every Time I Die, I would have been down the street at my overpriced one-bedroom Hollywood apartment watching some form of mindless television with my fiancee. As I walked down the hill from Sunset Boulevard toward the box office, the screams became louder and louder. You could hear the pain in this poor soul’s voice.
“Stop it! Stop it! You are hurting me! Stop it! Can you loosen up just a bit? Ouch, ouch! Stop hurting me!”
This only caused the beefy security guard twice the size of the detainee to stick his knee further into the back of a handcuffed kid. The kid screamed again.

- “I got a dose of 1988 into system last Saturday as I went to the Tony! Toni! Toné!, Bell Biv DeVoe and Keith Sweat concert in Nashville. It was awesome! … I didn’t realize these guys had 3,500 fans that still existed, but we jammed to ‘Do Me,’ ‘Feels Good,’ ‘Make You Sweat’ and countless other ballads that made me wish a woman was with me.” (YeeeeHaaaaawww)
- “The lights went dark and we were screaming our throats out. Out the blue we started seeing Iron Maiden’s Ed Force on the screen. The welcoming of the gods by the devotees at an airport was immediately followed by B55s flying high with Churchill motivating the English to defend their island. Within no time the riffs had started and we knew ‘Aces High’ was being bestowed upon us by the gods themselves.” (A Matter of Life and Death)

They mocked Sunday morning in an arena now owned by a church. They gave a huge finger to the rich and famous who didn’t buy a ticket to their show, which sold out months in advance. They further “egged” on their feud with Sharon Osbourne, and they got half the crowd to boo the local basketball team whose former home they were performing in.
They are Iron Maiden, and Tuesday night in front of a sold-out crowd at the once-fabulous Forum, the six-piece U.K. band played hit after hit for three generations of rabid Maiden fans.

L.A. folk-rock outfit Foreign Born returned to the Echoplex on Friday night, which was a fitting homecoming during the ending week of the writers strike, since the band played at the same venue way before the strike, on the season premiere of “Chuck.”
In that episode, the band’s cameo performance occurred during a pivotal dance scene that involved flying knives. Thankfully there were no knives this time around, but there was some dancing — namely, by an older lady who knew every word to their songs. And that’s surprising because early on in the show, singer Matt Popieluch announced that the band would be playing only new songs for the rest of the set.
While I wasn’t able to sing along to every song, I was stoked to hear the new stuff since I’ve had their current album, On the Wing Now, on repeat ever since this summer. The new songs included “Early Earnings,” which incorporated a country-ish twang with harmonizing coos, “Wait in This Chair” and “Vacationing People.”

Editor’s note: Boston pop-punkers Lansdowne are touring overseas military bases, entertaining U.S. troops. You can follow along with their journey via photos, video and blogs right here on You R Here.
Apparently it is a rare thing to be allowed to drink on a military base. Kyrgyzstan has the luxury of the “two-beer limit,” though I think they have found a pretty good way around it. You see, Baltica is a beer made locally with the finest hops and flavors, slow brewed to lock in taste, and I am a big liar. The beer is made locally, but it tastes a lot like cardboard taped to the inside of an exhaust pipe. Nonetheless, I am here to explain the three fine choices offered to our soldiers and the use for each one:
NOTE: Two beers are allowed per 24 hour period.
Baltica 8
Taste: Light, bitter
Alcohol: 4%
Comparable to: If Keystone were an IPA
Purpose and usage: Recreation and relaxation, slowly sipped to savor the fine taste of alcohol missing from training and guarding. Easily chugged, however it is not worth doing so.

Marking the ninth anniversary of the release of Blue Skies, Broken Hearts … Next 12 Exits, Ataris frontman Kris Roe has embarked on a massive tour playing the album in its entirety, as well as fan favorites from previous albums. Having recently finished up touring the West Coast, Kris is touring everywhere from New Jersey down to Florida and back through the Midwest to Michigan and Illinois before traveling to South America and Japan.
Friday’s almost one-hour set in Hoboken began at 11:30 p.m. with the first track on the album, “Losing Streak.” “This is a sing-along show, so I hope you all sing along,” Roe told the audience at Maxwell’s.
I’ve been to many concerts over the years, but none quite like Roe’s acoustic set. He had practically every person in the room singing along word for word to each song, something I’ve never witnessed before. Granted, the standing-room only audience seemed filled with die-hard fans. For the hit “So Long, Astoria” off of the album of the same name, Roe walked into the crowd while playing the song on guitar and let the audience take over singing the song. It was possibly the highlight of the night, and those in attendance demonstrated that the Ataris’ fans are far from extinct.

- “The Editors play at such a high level live that it borders on ridiculous. Tom Smith was unbridled energy in motion as the band worked through the electronic drum tinged ‘Blood.’ Russell Leetch was swinging his Rickenbacker bass around and would frequently stand in front of Ed Lay’s drum kit as they were locked in rhythm.” (Amateur Chemist)
- “The crowd was pretty hyped — drinks and clothes were flying everywhere. Eventually, after seven or so songs, someone threw some sort of book, which Pete Doherty picked up, looked at, and then walked off stage with Babyshambles Drew McConnell shouting, ‘Well done, d—head!’ into the mic. Nevertheless, they were back after a short while and played a great set.” (Walking Under Ladders)
