Someone please check and let me know if there are any people left in Puerto Rico.

Only two days ago Ricky Martin was finishing up the second U.S. leg of his Black & White tour at Madison Square Garden, but today it was all about him, Hollywood and the sea of Boricuas (Puerto Ricans) cheering him on as he received his star on Hollywood’s Walk of Fame.
Ricky invited fellow Puertorriqueña Rita Moreno to speak at the event. Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa presented him with a certificate of recognition. And of course Hollywood’s Honorary Mayor Johnny Grant made it to the ceremony … broken back and all.

The speeches made about Ricky focused on his contributions on the humanitarian front. He is a goodwill ambassador for UNICEF, has worked with Habitat for Humanity and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and has established the Ricky Martin Foundation, which works to eliminate child trafficking and to influence policy makers in the war against the exploitation of minors.

Ricky’s career spans over 23 years in the music business, and his recent Ricky Martin Unplugged album has put him back on the charts while earning four Latin Grammy nominations (Album of the Year, Record of the Year, Best Male Pop Vocal and Best Long Form Video). He makes obtaining iconic musical status look like un pedaso de pastel, and the icing on that cake has to be the star he was presented with today.
