Ticket Stubs: Ashley Tisdale, Ted Leo, H.I.M., Duran Duran

Posted by MTV News, New York, NY, at 7:27 pm EST on Wednesday, October 31st, 2007

- Ashley Tisdale played three songs at a Kansas City, Missouri, mall, drawing “more police than I have seen at many death metal concerts.” And although it was an event squarely aimed at the kiddies, leave it to the adults to almost ruin the thing. (StephanMiller.com)

- You know things are going your way when your evening class is canceled in time for you to score Ted Leo tickets and you easily navigate through L.A. traffic and even find free parking right by the venue. (Avium)

- Blogger “curiousinterest” felt “like a kid again” at last night’s H.I.M. concert. “I jumped and screamed and sang and headbanged, and pumped my fist through the entire performance. … Sad to say the only people my age who were at this concert were escorting their kids and didnt seem to be enjoying themselves as much as I was.” (LiveJournal)

- Duran Duran showcased their new album last night, much to the chagrin of blogger “primeaufreak,” who thought they were aiming a little young with their Timberlake/Timbaland sound that even included beatboxing. Luckily, after an intermission the boys dragged out all the old hits. (*BOGO*’s Site)

Cobra Starship Check In From Baltimore Tour Kickoff

October 23, 2007 - Sonar, Baltimore, MD

Posted by CobraStarship (from yourhere.mtv.com), New York, NY, at 5:57 pm EST on Wednesday, October 31st, 2007

Cobra Starship’s Alex Suarez is blogging on You R Here during the band’s Northeast tour with The Academy Is… Check back each day for a new update.

Alex

Day 1: Baltimore, MD
Well, the first day of tour and our new record comes out! Too much excitement for one day and that’s keeping us excited because well… the weather is crap today. We weren’t sure what to expect with our new bus because we got it last-minute; turns out to be a shredder. The first show was a little hectic, we had to get all our gear situated, but things worked out just a couple minutes behind schedule and the show was awesome. It’s always funny doing the first show on tour for us, we all need a show or two to kick back into tour mode and performing and all that.

Ticket Stubs: Hannah Montana, Pinback, Eagles, Lordi

Posted by MTV News, New York, NY, at 5:40 pm EST on Tuesday, October 30th, 2007

- Take one jaded, self-described “veteran rocker” incapable of tactfully explaining how long he’s liked Def Leppard, and then deposit him amongst thousands of screaming, screeching Hannah Montana fans and what do you get? Complaints about $35 T-shirts, parents who send their kids to concerts in limos and the lack of alcoholic beverages. (King5.com)

- Intricate pop melodies, “Guitar Hero” jokes and “Star Wars” clothing — ahh, the things you’ll find at a Pinback show. Not to mention the guy in the front row making bird signs at singer Rob Crow … or the guy in the balcony shouting out for someone to kill the bird-sign guy. (CDReviews.com)

- The Eagles landed at Los Angeles’ newest downtown venue, the Nokia Theatre Live, and turned in a “fantastic” show, with some of the proceeds benefiting California fire victims. The Dixie Chicks opened, and much to the relief of the blogger behind West Coast Catholic, they stuck to the music and avoided politics. (West Coast Catholic)

- So, how are Lordi, the costumed metal band that won the Eurovision contest? “One word: Horrible.” (Brooklyn Vegan)

Morrissey: Passion, Politics And Music Old And New

October 27 2007 - Hammerstein Ballroom, NYC

Posted by John Norris (MTV News), New York, NY, at 12:21 pm EST on Monday, October 29th, 2007

If misery loves company, Morrissey must have been in heaven on Saturday night. And why not? New York’s Hammerstein Ballroom — capacity 3,500 — barely had a square foot of empty space, and even after all these years there may be no more devoted fans than Mozheads.

It was night number four of Morrissey’s five-night “residency” here — compensation of sorts to New York, where the singer was supposed to play back in June across from Hammerstein, at Madison Square Garden (probably not the best idea to begin with), but canceled due to a throat infection. That they had to wait a few months to see him only seemed to whet their appetite.

San Diegans Gather At The Q After Fleeing Fires

Posted by Goebz (from yourhere.mtv.com), San Diego, CA, at 12:00 pm EST on Friday, October 26th, 2007

Editor’s Note: You R Here was launched so that users — you — can cover live music for MTV News. But as you’ll see from this post from a user in Southern California, it can also be much more than that: Here, Goebz shares her experiences and photos as an evacuee and volunteer during the wildfires this week.

Once the evacuation order was lifted for my home in San Diego, my family considered what we could do for those whose homes were still in jeopardy, or worse, already lost in the fires. My sister and I packed my car with supplies for displaced San Diegans — blankets, hats, pillows, bath items, books, magazines, and board games.

We set out for Qualcomm Stadium where thousands of people had converged to wait out the fires. Roads were eerily empty until we neared the stadium where we joined a long line of vehicles delivering donations. Once I reached the drop-off point, my car was swarmed by volunteers who emptied it in 30 seconds flat, adding our goods to a mountain of donations.

We continued on toward Gate P, the volunteer check-in area. On the way over, my sister got a call from a friend who, while away at college, just learned that her house in Rancho Santa Fe had been completely destroyed. I pictured her beautiful home, and then struggled to imagine how it could just be gone. It’s hard to comprehend such a total loss.
