German rockers Tokio Hotel paid a visit to “TRL” on Wednesday, and YRH member AyanEva was on hand in Times Square, amid a sea of shrieking fans. Here’s her video of the group signing autographs after the taping, but she’s got plenty more footage where that came from — including clips of the band leaving its hotel room and greeting fans at Virgin Records.

Atmosphere’s latest album is all about making everything shiny and new (hence the title When Life Gives You Lemons, You Paint That Sh– Gold), and the Minneapolis rap group’s set list of fresh tracks and spruced-up classics at Hollywood’s Music Box @ Fonda theater on Tuesday definitely fit the bill.
It was the first of two sold-out shows there, and Slug and Ant — the MC and DJ behind Atmosphere — were feeling the love of the loyal crowd. (Speaking of giving Atmosphere some love, they’re MTV’s artist of the week. You can check out some of their new music here.)

The energy was high all night — from opening band Luna Halo joking with the crowd when introducing themselves as Switchfoot to Switchfoot’s encore performance, hardly a seat in the house was inhabited, as most people were dancing and jumping along in the aisles.
I’ve seen Switchfoot several times over the past few years, and every time they’re better than the last. The music, the atmosphere, the unexpected. Frontman Jon Foreman always is a crowd pleaser and the band never disappoints.

“Higher Love” may have not made the set list last night at Blender Theater, but the crowd’s level of love for Steve Winwood and band couldn’t have been much higher.
Winwood premiered his brand-new Nine Lives album featuring a dynamic and international mix of rock and funk that infuses Latin beats and yet maintains Steve’s strong vocal presence with characteristic punchy chorus lines. All but one song off the new album were performed, along with old classics “Can’t Find My Way Home” from Steve’s Blind Faith days, and Spencer Davis Group’s “Gimme Some Lovin.’ ” The songs were each unique but transitioned smoothly throughout the set, and it was hard not to smile with the band consistently smiling at one another and looking like they were having as good a time as their fans.

- “Between ‘No Wow’ and ‘Alphabet Pony,’ the Kills were forced to stop the show for about 10-15 minutes while fire fighters investigated some kind of problem high above the stage. This was a very odd experience, and obviously, it damaged the momentum and aura of their show. It snapped us out of their spell, and though they could conjure it all up again with a flick of the switch, something was lost. But hey, it’s not their fault.” (Fluxblog)
- “The show was amazing. The Police took us back in time to 1983 and made me feel like a teenager again. Andy Summers was able to coax perfect notes and riffs from guitars that must be older than me; some of them were wooden and their paint had been worn off long ago! Sting’s voice was right on the money; he hit the notes with absolute precision and inserted even the ad-lib bits in the same points that they appear on their albums. In many respects, Stewart Copeland stole the show. While he is not only the drummer for the band, also supplying a healthy dose of percussion instruments in a variety of songs, he also oozed energy and that was infectious.” (The Hardest Quest)

After surviving multiple breakups, the Verve are back. The British rockers, best known for their late-’90s single “Bittersweet Symphony,” played the second of two shows at the WaMu Theater at Madison Square Garden on Tuesday night. It’s been years since the band, currently in its original four-person lineup, last toured the United States. Despite this, Tuesday night’s concert proved they can still put on a great live show.
The Verve opened the night with “A New Decade,” the first track on 1995’s A Northern Soul. Lead singer Richard Ashcroft’s voice was clear and resonated throughout the venue, holding its own against the psychedelic swirling sounds of the accompanying music. The set list featured a large number of songs from 1997’s Urban Hymns, even though the band has plenty of older material along with plans to release a new album this year. That being said, the band did play a few older songs that included a B-side and “Already There” from their 1993 full-length debut, A Storm in Heaven. They also included two new songs: “Sit and Wonder” and “Love Is Pain.”
